Benefits of Yohimbe Product InformationThe bark of a West African tree is known as Yohimbe. The bark contains yohimbine, which is an alkaloid. It has been used for centuries as an aphrodisiac and stimulant, particularly in the human male. In fact, a very small percentage, less than 6 %, of the bark is actually yohimbine.
Clinical studies have been done with Yohimbine. It has received approval from the FDA. The therapeutic effects of Yohimbine have been documented. Yohimbine is an FDA approved drug; whereas Yohimbe is not. The benefits of Yohimbe have not been scientifically documented and caution is advised when using it.
Yohimbe is sold in varying concentration levels, ranging from 4% to 20%. The side effects of the Yohimbe extract are more likely to occur at higher concentration levels. Plus, the dosage required is lower at the higher concentration levels. It is also sold in a capsule form that has been made from a powder derived from the bark. Currently, it is sold as an herbal supplement to improve erectile function. Consumers who have herbal sensitivity need to reduce the dosage that they ingest.
Researchers have experimented with various combinations of herbs for years. They have created a yohimbe blend of 15 different herbs that is supposed to improve erectile function, orgasms and climaxes, stamina, and overall desire. This aphrodisiac blend is also supposed to have the fewest negative side effects.
Yohimbine and Yohimbe have been shown to be potentially dangerous when used in conjunction with other medications or predisposed conditions. People who have any of the following conditions: heart problems or irregularities, high blood pressure, anxiety, or panic attacks, should not use it. People who use drugs or medications, particularly, antidepressants, tranquilizers, sedatives, antihistamines, or amphetamines should avoid using this supplement. Likewise, anyone ingesting large doses of stimulants such as caffeine or ginseng should also avoid this supplement. It is not recommended to use Yohimbe while drinking alcohol.
Use of Yohimbe produces several side effects that may not be pleasant or healthy to the individual using the supplement. The supplement will induce noradrenaline secretions and in high doses may cause a risk to the individual. Side effects include heart palpitations, changes in blood pressure, anxiety, heart rate increases or irregularities, headaches, nausea, cramps, visual disturbances, increases in body temperature, and sweating. Due to the nature of the side effects, operation of machinery, driving, or participating in a dangerous activity while under the influence of the supplement is not recommended.
Yohimbe reacts quickly, within one to three hours, and lasts for several hours. It has been shown to work in women as well as in men. In summation, one concludes that the use of Yohimbe may increase sexual function, but it should be taken with caution.
