Protein is a very important part of a diet that gives us energy, it’s also known as the building block for muscle and when one considers that it’s recommended that one body consume 1 gram per 1 pound of body weight per day … YIKES! | Protein PowdersThere is a time and a place …
We’ve all seen that health buff that takes supplemental living to an extreme while jousting down powder mixtures in record speeds … all day long.
Fortunately there’s a time and a place for protein shakes or protein powders in particular. In the morning when we wake up our body has been in sleep mode for 6-8 hours, we haven’t eaten anything but we need energy and fast.
It makes sense to look for a protein powder that will digest rather rapidly to give us what we need and a whey protein shake is indeed the fastest digesting shake there is. A fast digesting protein powder is also good right after a workout because when we work out, we’re using muscles, strengthening them and other parts of the body that need to be nourished right after a workout for best results … so whey protein powders are a must.
Any one person should drink no more than 1-3 protein drinks per average day, if you’re body is exerting some extra force and you’re getting tired then maybe an extra protein shake would be a good idea. Just keep in mind that protein drinks are not something you should drink for breakfast, lunch and dinner unless you ‘need’ them.
Just any protein powder will do … NOT!
Some people have the mindset that any protein powder on the market is the way but just like all the products out there, read the labels for ingredients because just any ole protein powder will not do.
Low carb dieters have goofed up their diets completely by picking up the powder in the pretty bottle so don’t be fooled. There are protein powders with a both higher carbs and lower carbs, so if you’re watching carbs make sure you know what you’re buying.
Taste is a factor.
Taste makes a big difference and luckily there are many flavors to choose from. The most common flavors are chocolate, strawberry and vanilla, there are more but nearly every manufacturer makes their powders in at least those three flavors.
Shakes, smoothies, with water, with fruit juice or milk … there are options and benefits.
Fruit provides us with a good source of antioxidants and when we mix up some protein powder with fruit … it’s a harmonious blend. Everyone has different preferences so it’s really best to play around with different blends to find the ones that are best for you. Protein shakes or powders are not nasty concoctions and if the ones you’re drinking aren’t tasteful … then find another brand.
Time is another factor … because protein powder can be mixed up in a blender in less than thirty seconds with a favorite liquid, it’s convenient, healthy and safe too.
Too much of a good thing is bad!
There’s always a catch and too much protein can be bad, there’s a lot of room for error unless you take an outrageously high amount like 800 plus grams per day, which may be suitable for an 800-pound horse but not a normal human!
It’s best to start out with the recommended dosage, if you feel you need more than gradually add more but for the most part you only need 1 gram per pound.
Ideally protein shakes and protein powders work for millions of people and they are a great way to supplement a balanced diet to keep muscle lean. Anyone looking for ways to increase muscle, lose fat or get more energy needs to include a protein shake or protein powder into their diet. Staying healthy and safe is what it’s all about! |
